Cautionary Tales
A Book Re-design Project in Second Year of University
Problem/Brief:
Design an interpretation of Hilaire Belloc’s Cautionary Tales for Children suitable for an adult audience as a team of five.
Solution/Outcome:
Our group decided on a gothic and horror idea, alluding to turn of the century styles. We also established a theme of black and white with colour accents by linking one specific colour with each character.
Project Role:
Adobe Softwares Used:
I am in-charge of all the character designs through out the book.
Photoshop, for thumbnailing and illustrating all the characters.
Indesign, for making the final book.
Feature Pages
Here are a number of pages that stood out within the book and the pages that I am the most proud of.
Development: Sketches
Here are my initial visualisations and sketches of the characters and all the character illustrations that I created for this book.
Outcome: Illustrated Book
The re-designed and illustrated book, Cautionary Tales for Children.
Workflow and Teamwork Management
As the Brief is only 4 weeks long, the workload is heavy and we did not want to work on this project overtime. To avoid handing in the project late, our team came up with a timetable with a clear design pipeline. This ensured that the project runs smoothly and everyone knows what they are doing.
